Fanny Smith
Conquering the world’s most dangerous ski cross tracks at lightning speed is no easy task — but for Fanny Smith, it’s just part of the ride.
With a career that spans over a decade and a collection of World Cup podiums to prove it, the Swiss Olympic medalist brings fierce precision and fearless style to every race.
Off the slopes, Fanny is more than just a competitor. She’s a role model, a mentor, a multilingual globe-trotter, and a passionate advocate for sport — carving her own path, one turn at a time.

ā€œI’ve always believed that you need to follow your passions in life.ā€

From childhood passion to world champion
Fanny’s skiing journey began when she was just two years old. Her passion was instant.
By 12, she was competing in major events. At 16, she turned pro. But in 2011, her first big wins were followed by a serious knee injury. Doctors feared she’d never ski again.
Never say never
Defying the odds, Fanny returned to competition just 11 months later.
In 2012-13, she collected six podium finishes, a crystal globe as the world’s top-ranked ski cross racer, and the gold medal at the 2013 World Championships in Norway.
And she hasn’t stopped since…Now she has two Olympic bronze medals, six World Championship medals and 3 World Cup wins.
Her career is the stuff of dreams. But it’s her consistency that brings her most joy.
ā€œI’ve ranked in the top three for over a decade,ā€ she says. ā€œYou can maybe win a race with a bit of luck, but to be successful in the long term, it’s not about luck: it’s a reflection of all the work I put in over a really long period of time.ā€

OFF-PISTE WITH THE CHAMPION

My words to live by
Passion. Courage. Integrity. These words describe me well and reflect the way I try to live my life.
I’ve always believed you need to follow your passions in life. I’ve been able to make a career from skiing, but I’ve many other passions that I try to integrate into the things I do.
To succeed, you have to dare to step outside of your comfort zone. This is true with ski racing, but also life, so always have courage.
And I believe integrity in any situation is essential to guide us through life.
How I overcome challenges
Coming out of a low point is about having a goal in mind, making a plan, and doing everything I can to make it happen. Knowing what you’re working towards and why you’re doing it helps to reduce the pressure.
When I’m not skiing
Since I spend so much time away from home, I love to spend time with my friends and family when I’m not racing or training. But I still like to stay active and spend time outdoors, so I’m always in nature, even when relaxing.
Most people don’t know
I’m a really bad singer. I’m so bad that I try not to sing in front of anyone!
My goals moving forward
Staying healthy, skiing as best as I can, and always improving. After all these years, the biggest challenge is staying motivated. I’m still very passionate about skiing and I know what I need to do to stay on top, but I need to keep pushing myself and taking some risks to stay fresh and motivated.
My best advice
Follow your dreams, but also set realistic goals and stay curious. Progress comes from questioning – both yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to question your training approach or the path you take to reach your goals. Questioning helps you grow. To be the best, you always have to ask, how can I do this better? How can I improve? Or, do I need to make changes to get there? Dreams are not enough to be successful: it’s hard work, and asking questions every day can help you find the answers.
Fanny’s top gear
ā€œMovements feel light and easy when I wear X-Bionic.ā€
Energy Accumulator Base Layer
ā€œThe compression makes my muscles feel invigorated and ready to go, but I still have freedom of movement. It’s the perfect combination.ā€
Energizer 4.0 Sports Bra
ā€œI love the bras and wear them all the time, both for training and racing. They’re so comfortable. Some I wear every day, like the Sina Sports Bra, and others I use for training, like the Energizer. They’re all excellent.ā€
